Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is always observed on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

In Hallmark research, many grandparents expressed disappointment that Grandparents Day was not “a big event,” and the majority expressed regret that they didn't receive a card, call or gift.

Hallmark began producing Grandparents Day cards in 1978.

2009 Product Features

Hallmark offers more than 70 Grandparents Day cards, including cards for first-time grandparents as well as cards for great-grandparents. Card prices begin at 99 cents.

Holiday History

Grandparents Day was created in 1978 through a joint congressional resolution signed by then-President Jimmy Carter. The idea to designate a day to honor grandparents emerged as a grassroots movement during the 1970s.
