Easter

Celebrated on April 4, 2010

Facts
Easter is always observed on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. The exact date is the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal (spring) equinox.
Industry-wide, an estimated 63 million Easter cards are exchanged annually, making Easter the fifth largest card-sending holiday in the U.S.
According to Hallmark research, people associate Easter with family, religion, children and spring. Easter is viewed as an enjoyable, relaxing time to gather with family and friends.
There is a trend toward seasonal home decorating for Easter, including “Easter trees,” decorative items, and seasonal clothing, accessories and jewelry.

2010 Product Features

  • Hallmark offers more than 850 Easter card designs, ranging from religious to humorous. Some cards focus on Easter and some have general spring messages. Prices start at 99 cents.
  • New First-Class Sound Cards offer audio clips of Hallmark-recorded songs and sounds for juvenile recipients. The cards are smaller than standard Cards With Sound, and the song clips are shorter, but the cards can be mailed with just one first-class stamp.
  • Hallmark offers Easter Recordable Cards With Music, which enable the sender to record a 10-second message that plays before a pre-recorded song.
  • Cards With Sound play favorite songs by the original artists and audio clips from movies and TV shows with CD-like quality. The Easter line features songs such as “Lollipop” by the Hit Crew and “Peter Cottontail” by Gene Autry. In addition, three of the cards feature the added surprise of pop-up motion when they are opened.
  • Cards With Motion use a unique printing technology that gives the illusion of a two-second video or animation clip, a 3D image, or a combination of both when the cards are tipped from side to side. The line also includes Big Time Motion cards that are a full 8-by-8 inches.
  • Some unique Easter cards are for birthday, religious occupations, secret pal, across the miles, and more, including Mahogany cards for African Americans, Hallmark Sinceramente cards for Hispanics, cards in foreign languages, and a card from the Easter Bunny.
  • In addition to cards, Hallmark Gold Crown® stores also offer Easter gifts, decorating items, gift wrap, paper partyware and stickers.
  • Hallmark Gold Crown stores also offer everything needed to create a unique Easter basket, including specially priced plush Easter baskets and specially priced heavy-duty decorated paperboard Easter baskets, small toys, stuffed animals, candies, jewelry, books and other goodies to fill the basket, as well as designed transparent gift wrap or bags to beautifully present the basket as a gift.
  • The Golden Egg Treasure Hunt game puts a new spin on the traditional Easter Egg Hunt by using carrot-shaped cards with clues to help little hunters find a large golden egg filled with something special.
  • The new “Don’t Drop the Eggs” Easter activity features two plush eggs that chirp when they’re dropped. They come with ideas for fun games for the whole family.
  • “Don’t Pull My Ears” plush Donald Duck waddles and flaps his arm in sync to a lighthearted song until he’s picked up by his bunny ears or head. Then his wings and feet move faster while he squawks, “Hey, Put me down!” He is available for $14.95 with the purchase of three Hallmark cards in Hallmark Gold Crown stores.
  • “We Got the Tweet” features a basket of plush chicks that sing and dance to a Hallmark Gold Crown-exclusive parody of “We Got the Beat,” originally recorded by The Go-Gos. It is available for $12.95 with the purchase of three Hallmark cards in Hallmark Gold Crown stores.
  • Hallmark Gold Crown stores also offer a variety of Easter stuffed animals, including exclusive licensed characters Tweety bird®, Snoopy® and Woodstock® all decked out for the season. Many feature sound.
  • Beginning March 15, participating Hallmark Gold Crown stores also will offer the popular Zhu Zhu Pets™ by offering an exclusive Zhu Zhu Pets™ bunny.

Holiday History

Easter is celebrated by Christians and is a significant religious holiday in the church year. It is a religious holiday that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death by crucifixion nearly 2,000 years ago.

For many people, the holiday traditionally represents the arrival of spring.
